We are ready for another great week at OES!!!

This week we will be visited by Community Helpers - pictures to come!  We will get to meet and interview Firefighters, Police Officers, a Construction Worker, and member of the Air Force!

This month........

Reading:  Literary Text We will continue our Mem Fox author study during the first full week of Oct. Then, we are moving into reading literary texts about the season of fall to learn about author’s purpose.  We will also explore question and answer books.

Writing:  Informational Writing We will focus on informational writing this month.  Our students will create question and answer books that we will use to research and find answers to our questions.  Based on these books, we will create a class informational video to teach others.

Science: Calling all Scientists!  Throughout the month of October, we will investigate and research to find the answer to the question, “As a scientist, what can we discover about fall?”  We will conduct experiments, create videos, and research why only some leaves change colors in the fall.

Math- We are excited about starting Daily 5 Math Stations this month!  Our students enjoy the hands-on approach to learning math and having the opportunity to take ownership of their learning.  We will continue practicing counting number sets to 10 as well as introduce numeral sets to 20.  We will focus on adding 1 more and taking away “1 fewer.” “Math is FUN!”  Events: Oct. 8- Walk to School at OES Oct. 16- Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night Oct. 17- School Spirit Day Oct. 20-23- Book Fair Oct. 21 & 23- Parent Teacher Conferences Oct. 23- OES Fall Festival Oct. 24- Staff Development (No School for students) Oct. 29- Fieldtrip to Strawberry Hill, USA Pumpkin Patch (more info to come)  October's Weekly Words 9/29- an, is, look           10/13- to, do, on, for 10/6- yellow, red, blue     10/20- he, she, up, down 10/27- one, two, three

Continue working on sight words nightly (see below). Be sure to read at least 30 minutes every night and log 2 lines!! We will be learning about Community Helpers during the next few weeks, so check back for updates and pictures!!

Reading: parts of a book, 3 ways to read a book, and literacy stations!

Writing: authors as mentors, we are all authors, and composing an opinion piece as part of a literary nonfiction ABC book!

Social Studies: Map and Communities and Community Helpers!
